Lisa Mann is an abstract landscape painter working with oil and cold wax medium. As a counselor, an educator, a mom, a traveler, and an artist, it has always been the creative expressions in these endeavors that have continued to draw her into a more inspired life. Her art is a reflection of collected stories from a lifetime of adventures- of living, travelling, and working overseas. It is an expression of a feeling of a place, that comes through in her colors and gestures.
The technique involves mixing a paste of beeswax to oil paints, and working in layers to add textures, lines and form. The wax allows for some transparency of the colors and for the different layers to show through, adding depth to the painting. Like a story being written-layer upon layer- a painting is created, and then selectively scraped back to reveal pieces of its past.
Lisa is influenced by travel, and its ability to bring us out of our comfort zone- and into a realm where we feel more connected to the natural world and those around us. The art walks the line between what we see and what we perceive. Her work has been included in a variety of juried gallery shows, from NH, to Seattle, to London, and won numerous awards.
